Drooling over Pre-falls again

Greetings everyone. I like writing this blog. The thing is...I'm at school and... it's finals week. Organic Chemistry is whispering my name in a raspy voice; picture the grim reaper. Or don't; that'll be unpleasant. This is a study break though for sure.
Anyway. I was looking through more pre-falls. I'll start with Vera Wang:
Oh, I like sequins so much. I personally do not have any in my closet because I am extremely picky about sequined pieces. A majority of the time they can be a bit trashy looking. But, apparently I'll just have to go ask Vera for this piece above. The olive-y, gold-y color of the bottom is similar to the dress I posted yesterday from Devi Kroell. Pair it with the light blue above, and the effect is rich and cool. I also like that there are knee socks because my friend Kaitlyn loves to wear knee socks. There is also just a bit of black sheer fabric sticking out from under the dress, a look used a few times in this collection.
Here's another from her Pre-fall collection. I have been loving the long top (usually a thick wool sweater; I live in the tundra) with skinny jeans and boots. This is the dressed up version of that in a way. Such a neat coat. I love the ornamented shoulders and the lack of collar. The look is streamlined, a little serious, but still very feminine.

This post isn't very cohesive, considering the pictures above versus the one just below...but there's this dress silhouette that's very 70's, and thus my mom really is not a fan. I, however, would like to sport one come spring. Or else, now with long boots.

In one of my earlier posts this month (I think), I drew a sketch of a girl wearing a dress with a similar silhouette (long, bell sleeves).
Well, I like it. I guess it's because it's fresh and new to me, unlike those generations who actually witnessed this silhouette in its first go around.
I can still enjoy it though right? Although it's true that it may irk the memories of some such as my mother.

Next, I looked at Thakoon. It wasn't as though I saw original silhouettes. But Thakoon showed his take on them and there was something light and refreshing about some of his pieces.

Above, I like the uneven, handkerchiefy sort of hem. It's just fresh and fun. And it's well balanced with a strong ankle bootie.

I really really like this dress. Can I have one? I'm not sure what I'd do if I needed a sweater...but I guess it's only for warm places.

Above, again, another bell sleeve dress. Chanel's Spring 2010 collection was an undeniable standout for Fashion Week. This collection as well is just...shall I say unexpected?
What I enjoy so much is that is so very Chanel, it has those elements of very recognizable, timeless elegance. However, it's new, experimental, pushing boundaries. It's something you've seen but at the same time, it's totally original.

I'm not a fan of the hat, but the skirt and top are scrumptious. They just remind me of a Chanel quilted bag...enough said.
I'll leave you with this dress below. The detailing at the neck and collarbone plus the fact that it's worn by Jessica Stam make for an incredible exit.

Pre-fall 2010 Begins

This is the Pre-Fall 2010 Collection of Austria-born Devi Kroell. I had never heard of her,
and I think she is awesome.
The way the top above just lays perfectly. Such a stunning color. Ooh. The proportions are so flattering. I'm not sure how easy it would be to pull off such high heels though, but I also don't think this outfit would work as well with thicker heels or flats.

Above: Of course, it probably would help to be that thin, however, I love how accessible this look is as far as the age ranges it could appeal to. The lovely color of the top, the perfect length of the pant. Again, I'm loving the proportions here.
Above: Ooh. The colors. Mmmmm. They're so yummy. And the way the pant lays is great.

Above: the color of this dress is...well, it leaves me pretty much speechless. I know we've seen plenty of Grecian-looking gowns these past few seasons, but I think mostly because of the fabric (It's draped, but it's not super flowy. It looks like it can hold its own. Stiffer? More billowy?), this one stood out to me. Among hundreds of these goddess gowns I've seen in the past year or two, this one is a standout.

Oh, and...

I have a new fashion idol, Olivia Palermo. She's gorgeous. Her style pushes bounds, but she is so classy and elegant. Google her!

Ooh, Christmas Break is Coming!

Sorry for the long absence.
I want to make a maxi skirt over break. Add another item to my to-do list!
I'm so excited.
Sketch to follow soon.

A little Random

I am so excited for Thanksgiving break and then Christmas break. I will hopefully have some photos after Christmas of projects.
Here are some random sketches. I'm not so focused on the dress. (It's pretty blazé) I'm trying to make my sketches actually look like people. Hmmm...

I want to do a project over Christmas time!
An upward pleat skirt caught my eye during NY Fashion Week in Brian Reyes.

These are a few sketch ideas. I could go with slouchy or stiff. I don't have to tell you that it would be an understatement to say these sketches are very rough drafts.
(Above: In a slouchy khaki or cranberry cotton?)

(Above: In a stiff dark grey or navy blue wool?)

Input?

I still haven't decided on a design to submit to Shabby Apple so any input would be appreciated. If anyone has a request for a design they'd like to see, I like requests.

So, I want to do two projects over Winter Break. A dress with upward pleats and a wool shorts jumper, only I don't think I would ever wear the jumper. Unless it turned out pretty well.

The Jumper

Ralph Lauren said about fashion, "You have to feel the pulse. there has to be something that's fun, that steps away from the realness of life."

During NY fashion week this year, I devotedly checked for and perused new runway shows every day on style.com. I was particularly struck by the use of the jumper.  I'd like a deep navy blue silk one of this sketch. It was inspired by Richard Chai Love and the shoes are Nanette Lepore.

After coming off an unforgettable Fall 2009, Ralph Lauren's collection was plentiful, but a little disappointing? There was a lot of denim. A lot of denim. It was a lot of American sportswear. Some of the looks were reminiscint of the previous season. hmm. oh well, until next season.

Milly. So cute and fun! Actually, it may be my favorite from the entire season.

Nanette Lepore-one of my favorites from this season.

Koi Suwannagate-notable, intriguing.

Vera Wang. Definitely different from her earlier design asthetic. There's some major edge. Yet although there's some apparent 'looseness' of construction, even messiness, underneath it all, there still remains the elegant lines and exquisite construction that Wang unfailingly produces.

Tory Burch had some verrry cool pieces. very this season shaped...with the fuller trousers that only go ankle length. The loose tops that sort of just lay on you. The sequins, the ankle sandles or ankle boots. Laid-back. Very cool.

Sometimes exits progress from weekend wear to red-carpet gowns, but don't seem to relate much. Not at all in the case of Tory Burch. There was such an overall harmony: the unity of progression and cohesion.
